thanks to Michael H (M Photographic) who informed me the insect is a plume moth.

Brown Hare - Lepus europaeus

Norfolk

Double Click to view

The brown hare is known for its long, black-tipped ears and fast running - it can reach speeds of 45mph when evading predators. It prefers a mosaic of farmland and woodland habitats and can often be spotted in fields.

Thought to have been introduced into the UK in Roman Times (or even earlier), the brown hare is now considered naturalised. It is most common in grassland habitats and at woodland edges, favouring a mosaic of arable fields, grasses and hedgerows. It grazes on vegetation and the bark of young trees and bushes. Brown hares do not dig burrows, but shelter in 'forms', which are shallow depressions in the ground or grass; when disturbed, they can be seen bounding across the fields, using their powerful hind legs to propel them forwards, often in a zigzag pattern. Brown hares are at their most visible in early spring when the breeding season encourages fighting or 'boxing'. Females can produce three to four litters of two to four young (known as leverets) a year.

Widespread, but absent from northern Scotland and the Scottish islands, except Islay, I'm reliably informed.

Small songbird with short, fine bill. Breeding males have black crown and back, white underparts, black wings with bold white wing panels, and black tail with white tip. In nonbreeding plumage crown and back brown, with pale-edged feathers in dark upperwing. Female similar to nonbreeding male. Inhabits lightly wooded areas, especially eucalypt, foraging in pairs or small flocks in the mid- to upper story. Song is a loud, clear series of notes that descend and accelerate into a trill. We saw this bird on our first full day in Australia and had absolutely no idea what it was. The eBird reviewer informed me that my first ID was completely wrong and provided me with the correct ID. Thanks goodness for eBird reviewers.

Firstly I would like to thank you all for your wonderful comments and favorites, they are very appreciated.

After a few days without seeing Fearful around my house after being chased away by a raccoon! I wanted to put my bird feeders back in place and I was curious to know where he had gone. A friend who knew I was doing photography 1 kilometer, 3/4 mile away from my house which I ad exchange the week before during our daily walks came to my house to inform me that the cub was at home and was feeding under is Feeders... So I went to check him out and maybe have an opportunity to take a few pictures. The cub did not seem at be all bothered by our presence and after napping on a white pine branch he. Then I was able to take a few shot on a grey sky BG from my friend's balcony, I was at is level. The game wardens have been informed but I imagine that at this moment with all the roads almost closed in my area because of the flooding, they will not come to get Him. Again is mamma will perhaps find it by that time. At the last news he was gone for many days from my friend's house only to come back yesterday....

Taken a RSPB Lodmoor. I was informed that according to the rings this was an escaped bird from Devon. It stayed for a few weeks.

I was really tired and I had just walked up to the lighthouse at Point Reyes....this appeared and I freaked out! I thought I was seeing things. From what I have learned it is known as a

Please find it in your hearts to help our children who are more afraid each day, this is no way for them to live their lives, ESPECIALLY in peace?? We can and must be the positive force to change things to a loving atmosphere, not one filled with hate and distrust! We are not only losing our youngsters through killing, but they are more prone to suicide these days, we have to nurture them and always be in touch with their feelings. Verbalize as much as we can, let our children know that we love them and are there to protect them, that they can come to us for anything at all. After all, it is at home where everything begins in the lives of our children, and it is our responsibility to try and be as alert as possible and keep in contact with their real feelings and fears. There are times through heart-to-heart conversations with our children we can avert a situation at school or wherever. Let us all make a concerted effort to change for the better.

Thank you for your kind visit. Have a beautiful day and spread love and kindness! ❤️❤️❤️

The 'Fishburn' ferry at Milsons Point Wharf.

Earlier tonight in Sydney.

Sunday, 25th June 2023.

My Google Home Hub Max informed me, very late this afternoon, that the sunset and dusk in Sydney tonight was going to be above-average. So, I jumped into the car and drove down to the harbour. Didn't have time to catch the fast train!

And Google was right. The sunset and dusk in Sydney this evening was pretty cool. I took a zillion shots around Luna Park and Milsons Point (one of my favourite places on the harbour, along with Pyrmont Bay and Barangaroo).

So this image was taken almost as dusk was finishing - at around 5.51pm or so.

My Canon EOS 5D Mk IV and the Canon EF 16-35mm f/4L lens.

Processed in Adobe Lightroom and PhotoPad Pro by NCH software.

No filter. No saturation.

This was how dusk looked earlier tonight in Sydney.

one of my recent achievements, it is Pemberley Shore, a place that will be private, but open to the public for the first few days.. Maybe you will have the chance to discover it! .. stay informed : )

A friend informed me of this very rare visitor to our tiny island. I personally am not a fan of shore bird. I went and was taken aback how tiny and cute this little fellow is. Love those gorgeous eyes.

Finally satisfied with the IQ I am getting from all the effort of calibrating the 4/3 lens to the EM1.3 body. Minus 4.

Thank you my friends for popping by.

I really appreciate your visits, comments & favourites.

Wishing all my Flickr friends a Happy Sunday

Thank you

Tofu already informed me of the rain in the middle of the night. He came home wet, jumped onto my bed and put his paw on my face to make sure that I noticed him.

"An unidentified flying starflower has been detected in orbit around earth last night. So far, it didn't responded to any contact attempt. We will keep you informed", according to the Newspaper O-Ri_G_A-Mi.

I folded one molecule from my origami tessellation 'Dance' to create this "Origami Starflower". It is 3D shaped, hope you can see it.

Mostly I start with showing first just one molecule and then a larger tessellation with more molecules connected in some way or another. Must be because I like the irregular hexagon shape so much ;-))

If you are interested to see more, have a look at my tessellation album Origami - Tessellation Progression".

I was thrilled to see this male Redstart in my Hampshire garden yesterday - a 'first'. I have only managed to photograph the Redstart, a female, at the coast before. I am also reliably informed that it is the earliest sighting in the borough this year.

Was informed a few days ago that the Tawny I photographed has succumbed to roadkill.

Such a sad end to this magnificent owl. R.I.P.😢

I've been informed that, at over 900 years, this is one of the oldest churches in England. I had no inkling of this when I stood here to take a few pictures. A friend has suggested the church may be mentioned in The Domesday Book, but I haven't been been able to confirm this.

Back in the mid 1980s while driving with my father, he informed me as soon as he saw the Schlein Deli and Catering building, that it had once been a drugstore...plus his dad, my grandfather, would occasionally work there as a fill-in pharmacist back in the 1930s or early 1940s. I was stunned and immediately stopped my car and grabbed this shot. Heck I lived 3 blocks from the location and never heard a peep about this. This was/is part of the original Norhill Heights Business District (developed in the 1920s)....which I think was about one block long. Ain't family history fun!? Especially when you can take a photo to authenticate and document it. :-)

Today Three Dog Bakery operates where Schlein's was. It's a bakery for dogs. True story. :-) The barber shop closed years ago...but I took my sons there a time or two back yonder. The car wash is gone....replaced by a massive retirement home.

A dear Flickr friend informed his followers this morning that he will be taking an extended holiday (those of you who follow him know who I speak of). With his brilliant images and continual support he will be missed!

Thank you, Nathaniel Macrae, for always being a positive, encouraging presence! I'll be looking forward to the day the sun rises with your return!

Lou informed me of the rare visit of the Glossy Ibis to Sepulveda Dam. When I visited I came across a White-faced Ibis as well - the one with the pink eye mentioned by Lou !

Silver glinted in the morning sunlight as Aurora turned this way and that, looking at the reminder of how her life had changed in the blink of an eye.

"Kintsukuroi. The Japanese rather than throw something broken away, fill the cracks with gold or silver, to show the beauty in the imperfections."

She'd been informed of what her scars reminded Noma of, and part of her saw it. But the part that she wouldn't show that was scared... that still had the weight of what could happen hanging over her, that part couldn't see it yet as a tear slid down her cheek. Would she have changed running next door to the kids aid had she known the outcome? No... no she wouldn't.

Endemic to Madagascar…

Thank you so much to all of you, dear friends, for your care and lovely comments in my last photos. I'm only posting this photo to keep you all informed about the situation with my eye cataract surgery.

Someone made a miscalculation with the intraocular lens in my surgery and after all this time, two weeks, I have only sixty percent of visual ability in my left eye.

The doctor who performed the surgery, in a well reputed clinic in Lisbon, said that there will be no further evolution from this point on and that I have two alternatives: to keep sixty percent vision and to go ahead for cataract surgery in my other eye, because, in his opinion, I would be able to see very well! Or I will have to undergo a new laser intervention, which I would have to pay for, because my insurance company pays for everything except the laser.

As I don't consider any of these options acceptable, even because only a year ago I was seeing very well in both eyes, although I already had a beggining of cataracts, I was even seeing much better before the surgery than I see now… I'm trying to resolve the situation with the clinic.

Please, forgive me for not being able to be more present in Flickr, but nor my head or my eyes are working very well at the moment. I hope that soon I'll be able to return to my normal activity on Flickr. Stay well and be happy, dear friends! Big hug.

I suspect when I informed the good lady, her indoors that we were going to Corfe view for a holiday that she dreamt of a greek island odyssey! I didn't get to the location in time for a foggy sunrise, so perhaps "mist opportunity" could have been the title for this one.

This bunny was orphaned when she was two months old. She continued eating at the place I leave food for wild rabbits but was terrified of me. When I stood by the window she ran into the woods.

One afternoon, I was stomping dirt off my boots and startled the bunny hiding behind a bush. She bolted away but to my surprise, was waiting for me as I approached the front porch. I stood a couple of feet away, looked in her eyes and talked gently for 15 minutes. The sweet little girl began following me around the property and I sometimes sat and watched over her while she ate.

A few months later, all the birds, squirrels and bunnies I care for disappeared. I thought it was hawks until one day I observed a neighbor’s dog eating a dove near the bird feeder. I’d previously chased it away when observed hunting my animals. I dashed out the door but the dog disappeared into the forest, bird in mouth.

This was the last straw and I informed my neighbor it wouldn’t be in his dog’s best interest to every show up on my land again.

Within 48 hours the baby bunny returned and ran up to me as I approached. I placed some food on the ground but after a few bites she hopped away…..and perched her front paws on a flat stone where I leave sunflower seeds for the squirrels. I realized what she wanted and told her “wait....I’m coming back.” By this time, she’d learned a few words.

I sprinkled sunflower seeds on the ground 12 inches in front of where I knelt. She returned to me and began eating. It was an amazing experience to photograph a wild animal from this proximity.

Yesterday, the informed were treated to M337's trio of classic power as they threaded their way through town in the mid afternoon hours of the day. A pair of Dash 8's led an old six-axle EMD on a picture perfect afternoon in Chicagoland. 18th Street.

Discovered this nesting pair 3/16/19 just outside the 4th level parking of my car in my condo here in Philippines. There are metal louvers to let the air in but not sufficient enough to conceal myself & not spook the bird. In the evening, I installed a drop cloth & informed security to not remove it. The following day (3/17/19), when I started shooting, the bird was seated but waited for it to stand so the eggs were visible. It took a while before she did this & for her mate to take his turn. As she got up, I got this frame. Pretty soon the male came & sat on the eggs.

a smoky day in August of 2017 on the King George Highway in Surrey. Ross informed me that it is no longer called that anymore, it is now King George Boulevard ? I asked where is the boulevard ? doesn't that mean a center median with greenery?

The name was changed to "King George Boulevard" in 2009 "to project an image of a modern, safe, walkable and livable City Centre community", given that portions of the corridor have had a reputation for being dangerous and having a high incidence of criminal activity.

Hmm, I think you need more than a name change. There still is a large population of homeless people in this area despite its new "Boulevard" moniker.

I grew up in this area, my grandparents lived a five minute drive from this photo's location. So much has changed for the better but so much more for the worse. Whenever we drive through I remember incidents from my childhood that happened in this area. What it has changed to is an uneasy mix of the old and the new, and I can't say I prefer either of them. The old memories have taken on a rosy hue and the new seems brash and thoughtless, a facade to hide the bleakness of many people's everyday existence.

(Everyman: ' Everyman ' portrays Everyman who is informed by Death of his approaching end. First, he is deserted by his false friends: his casual companions, his kin, and his wealth. He falls back on his Good Deeds, his Strength, his Beauty, his Intelligence, and his Knowledge. These assist him in making his Book of Accounts, but at the end, when he must go to the grave, all desert him save his Good Deeds alone. The play makes its "grim" point that we can take with us from this world nothing that we have received, only what we have given . )

Now, the woman that died today was a great wife and companion, a great and lovely mother, a great and lovely grandmother.

After 14 years of sl, I am relaunching the wam project which is to play dj and singer artists in open stage. Small friendly place to discover new artists and listen to the most recognized in the sl community. I will keep you informed of its opening very soon ...

I arrived a little late for the sunrise due to being disturbed while trying to sleep in my car during the night by marauding sheep rummaging through the car park bins. however I arrived just in time to catch the remnants of the morning mist when my fellow photographers happily informed me that I had just missed an excellent setting moon which somewhat dampened my spirits a little. Never the less the clear skies was an early indication of what was to come and the following photograph more than made up for my oversleeping

Today early morning my little sister noticed that beautiful dragonfly in front of window, then she informed me and i took some shots hurriedly!

Colour is hard to find on the northern prairie in March. The hills are yellow-brown, the valley bottom is yellow-brown, my front lawn and backyard garden are yellow-brown.Certainly I'm glad to see the departure of winter, but the land is still warming. The first green grass blades are still tentative. It will be a while before we see the rolling green hills of spring, dotted with wildflowers, graced by the flash of bright feathers.

I spent some time on a recent hike searching for the first prairie crocus, to no avail. Soon, but not yet. Then, cutting across a broad slope littered with big rocks, I noticed the one constant that's available to me in all four seasons: lichens on rocks. One of the boulders - the largest, as it turned out - was made of pink granite, which instantly informed me that it didn't "grow" here. This was a glacial erratic, deposited by retreating glaciers ten thousand years ago or more, at the end of the most recent Ice Age. It was covered in lichens.

Lichens, which are neither plants nor animals, consist of an alga ("alga" is singular; "algae" plural) and a fungus in a symbiotic relationship. Map lichens, such as the ones seen in this image, are the oldest living organisms on earth; an Arctic species has been dated at more than 8,000 years old.

My concerns that morning, however, were purely photographic. I was carrying the tripod. I still have one of those old fashioned DSLRs with the mirror, so I used a cable release to lock it up before each exposure and thus minimize vibration from mirror slap. I focused on the shaded side of the rock; illuminated from the blue sky above kept the colours relatively cool. I lined up my camera's sensor parallel to the plane of the rock and stopped my lens down to ensure edge to edge sharpness. I briefly considered flattening those dead grasses, but in the end chose to leave them in, for context.

Quick story about Iguana. Many moons ago I accompanied my son and a few of his 7th grade classmates to Guyana. We were in the Amazon forest being cared for by a very nice woman and a woodsman who would lead us to find snakes and other critters in the forest. The woman asked me if I would like Iguana for dinner and I said “Sure, I’ll try it.” She brought some to the camp, which had no electricity or refrigeration of any type. The Iguana were on the ground with their legs were tied behind their back. I asked our caretaker if the meat would spoil if it wasn’t cooked that day. She laughed and informed me that they Iguana were very much alive and would keep for days. The kids heard that and next thing I knew the Iguana were set free. I can honestly say I was not disappointed.

With that diversion aside, this guy was changing positions in the snag at Green Cay and gave me this interesting pose in the strong morning light. (Green Iguana with a most creative scientific name: Iguana iguana) (Sony a1, 400mm, f/2.8, 1/1600 second, ISO 640)

Was informed of a rare woodpecker coming to drink, occasionally at the above bowl and we did not have to wait long.

Its Golden tail could not be seen but is only visible in flight. But hope you agree it's a real beauty, heavily streaked, with a barred green back. His arrival caused quite a joyful reaction even among the Gambian bird guilds.

THANK YOU, for your visit, keep safe and well.

On Sunday May 12th I got informed about a transport of a DB ICE 3neo hauled by a TCS (Train Charter Services) Nez Casse (former NS 1772).

I also got informed about another Nez Casse, this time operated by RFO was also heading towards me. With this in mind I headed towards Keverdijk. After waiting for about 1 hour the RFO train had passed me. After this I had to wait yet another hour before the TCS train would pass me.

At 4:45 PM, TCS 101002 hauling DB ICE 3neo passed me heading towards Amsterdam.

This may be one of the final posts from the old Sony. This was one of the scenes that I captured with it and I never got around to posting. I’m lucky to have found a replacement for the old workhorse. This photo was taken at El. Franco Lee Park.

I also want to give everyone an update on the approaching hurricane. It has strengthened considerably as it approaches and will definitely wreak havoc whenever and wherever it makes landfall. Luckily for those of us in Houston, it will be to the east of us. Still close, but we will also be on what they call the dry side of the storm and the side where the winds and conditions are not as violent as they are on the eastern side of the storm. It’s going to be a devastation hit to the coastal areas where Texas and the Louisiana borders meet. Places like Port Arthur and Beaumont in Texas and Sulphur and Lake Charles in Louisiana will likely bear the brunt of the impact. The track has remained set, but the strengthening is what is of major concern to the area. Please keep those people in your thoughts and prayers.

The only good thing about the storm is that it is moving rather quickly and should move inland rapidly and just sit and spin and cause more damage. Only time will tell how much damage it will do.

We will get some heavy winds and rain, but we should be okay in our area. We are roughly 90 miles to the west of where the hurricane should make landfall tonight. Stay safe and we’ll do our best here. I’ll try to keep everyone informed.

I've been informed by... associates... that I haven't posted a picture of a great blue heron since September. These associates are unhappy with me and demand a new heron picture.

Here's one I saw today at Nisqually.

Stop pecking me, associates! Ouch!

NOT !!!

There’s a nice story to this one…..

I had just returned from a walk and my wife informed me this rapscallion had installed himself inside the bird feeder about 10 minutes earlier..

“They are squirrel proof: said I, ridiculously

“Not any more, Sherlock” said Julie.

I had my little camera and thought if I went and took a photo of him he would scarper, and he did, sort of, only he was fatter than when he went in and he thrust himself out through one of those little squares and got stuck, front legs, head and chest out, the rest in. We walked away and left him for 5 minutes thinking he would free himself. He didn’t he was well and truly stuck and it wasn’t doing him any good.

We decided we had to try and cut him out. There’s no way old Magoo could do the cutting, not if Mr Squirrel were to escape in one piece, so I gallantly suggested as a precaution that Julie should wear some kevlar gloves, and as she carefully tried to get the cutters to the wire Magoo bravely hid round the back and held the cage steady. It wasn’t easy, the plump little fellow was filling the square totally, and squirming in panic. She managed to cut one wire and was just manoeuvring the cutters to the wire on the other side when, quicker than a hiccup the little rascal shot his head forward and latched on to her finger with those nut crushing teeth……

The gloves held…..slowly Julie began to draw her hand back as she did so it pulled the fat little interloper through the now loosened hole until a seeming sucking motion drew his legs and tail free, at the same time he released his finger bite and fell to the ground with a resounding plop, and then ran off like a … .well, like a mad squirrel!!

I have referred to the scoundrel throughout as ‘he’ for seriously, no woman could be that stupid, and while the feeder failed to live up to its lofty claims, fortunately, the kevlar gloves took it in their stride.

Giles informed me that we had a special visitor in the forest who might want to spend some time with us...so I went to say hi. Luckily, this was a young ent so it only took 3 days!

On the last leg of my Thailand trip I arrive back at the place where I started. No, not Dresden airport yet. For now I'm back in Bangkok, where I'll stay until Sunday evening. Only then I will go back home.

After I recovered from the more than three hour drive here, I immediately went to visit another spot that I have on my list. The large golden Buddha which is, as far as I am informed, with an heights of is 69 meters, the largest Buddha statue in the city.

By the way, the name in the title means in translation: “Monastery at the mouth of the river”

Plas Cadnant Hidden Gardens

A historic garden under restoration, situated between Menai Bridge and Beaumaris on the Isle of Anglesey.

In 1996, the present owner bought the 200 acre Plas Cadnant Estate and work began on the restoration of the historic garden and grounds. Since then large parts of the gardens have undergone a spectacular transformation and have been restored to their former glory.

Described as one of North Wales best kept secrets is the hidden world of Plas Cadnant Gardens, situated at the side of the Menai Strait, hidden from view near to Menai Bridge on the Isle of Anglesey.

Former owners of Plas Cadnant were related to the Tremayne family of Heligan House, now famous for its Lost Gardens.

A new garden is being created on an historic site, becoming a plantsman's paradise. Now considered amongst the liveliest twenty gardens of Wales, and featured in a new book 'The Finest Gardens of Wales' by Tony Russell'. Also featured in 'Discovering Welsh Gardens' written by Stephen Anderton and photographed by Charles Hawes.

There is still much work to be done and we hope you will visit us in person or use the website to keep informed of our ongoing progress.

Three gardens in one

Three different gardens have been discovered, including an unusual walled garden with curving walls and pool, a secret valley garden with three waterfalls and river, and an upper woodland garden with stone outcrops and the remains of a 19c. folly.
